Yeah, the more awesome sounding things they announce, the more worried I get about how it will actually play. It's just so ambitious. I'm glad they're planning on taking it all slow about adding new features, but even just the stuff at the start is going to be tough to take in all at once. I really hope they have much better training for newbies than MAG ever did.
I recall that they said something about VR training.

there will be a place to just run scrims or random tdm. i wish there was more news coming out of the beta to see what the manufacturing side of the game was like. i would get a lot of satisfaction out of creating a company to sell gear to people/corporations. hopefully they restrict this to console players creating weapons for console players.
Mercenary Pack Essentially, you can buy your way into all the betas events, for what they initially planned to give those who bought Dust back before it went free to play. And a bunch of other stuff in addition. Go ahead and read the article in the link, but here's the list.
Quote :
4,000 Aurum ($20 USD value) - the in-game currency for DUST 514 that you can buy in the PS Store 30-dat Active Skill Booster - increases earned Skill Points (SP) by 50% 'Dragonfly' Scout Dropuit - a uniquely designed armor with unlimited use 'Toxin" ICD-9 Submachine Gun with unlimited use and a custom skin HK4M Shotgun X 50 Hacked Drop Uplink x 50 - allows players to create on-the-spot spawn points for their teammates Fused Locus Grenade x 50 1.5dn Myofibril Stimulant x 50 - offers players a temporary melee damage boost against opponents All Access Beta Pass - allows players to participate in every Beta Event, as well as additional play sessions during off weekends
If what they've said before is true, then this is still all stuff that you can buy with in game money eventually.
The biggest question here is, if this is in beta that you get all this stuff, will it be wiped before play starts? Definitely wouldn't want to spend money on that and have it go for nothing.

They don't usually get a beta anymore. But this one's been in closed beta since December, with them slowly sending out more waves of invites.

I can understand your concerns there, Wadey, and I do share them. And so with that in mind, I decided to take one for the team and buy this pack, selflessly sacrificing my precious moneys so that I can bring you all word on this game, good or ill. Eventually. I'm under an NDA (nondisclosure agreement) for the time being and can't talk about the game until they say I can. But rest assured that the moment they drop it I'll be giving a full account.
Since this was the amount I was originally expecting to pay for the game, I went ahead and spent it on this. I can tell you that if you buy this pack that any items you get from it and any of the in game money you spend on it will be returned to you after any of the beta's future server wipes, and again in the commercial release. So, by spending the money on the pack now, I've effectively gotten to use the same stuff multiple times in as many different ways as I can before full release. I figure it's the best way I could have contributed to this grand project of CCP's and still get the most out of it for myself.

It expires when they say it does.
There's already much I wish I could share, I can tell you that. Certainly wish I could go into specifics.

Can you tell us if it's worth it to buy the mercenary pack for beta access? I know it carries over, but it's $28 for me.

I'm finding it to be worthwhile. Not sure about $28 though. You guys always get ripped off no matter what. Well, not quite. Once the market becomes player driven, then you can just pay other players in ISK for their AUR stuff instead of buying your own AUR at an inflated price. There's that at least.

I'm considering it because I've had my eye on Dust for a long time. I'm just not sure if I want to put money into something I know nothing about. (I've done WAY too much of that)

I wish I could say more, but I've agreed not to. I can tell you that I've seen a good bit so far, and that it isn't even a tenth of what's going to be in the final version. I can tell you that I'm playing every weekend so far.

Looks like I'm buying a psn voucher this weekend. Also, I guess the games prices are higher because the average Australian's risk factor. You know, how everything tries to kill us?

Nah. It's just the prices trying to ensure you don't have the money for food.

+'d monkey for respecting the NDA, even on a site where it's almost assured that he wouldn't get caught if he broke it. Respect points yo.
And can't wait till that NDA gets lifted and we can get an official monkey review on this bad boy.
