Lolz. There is some weird stuff going on tonight for sure. I got off my wagon to skin an animal and just started to spin in circles, was like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes.

Thanks again! Pretty sure the only reason I made it that long was because I was running around like a headless chicken while you and Six were actually dealing with the enemies. I was also the first one downed lol, so all credit to y'all. I had a great time! I should be able to find some more time this weekend, Porky. Thanks for letting me mooch!
If I were to start a role, which would you recommend? I'd it advantageous for a posse to be on the same role, or is it better to have a mix? I'm not entirely sure if you can only be doing one at a time, but that's the impression I remember getting when I started out last year.
Also, I'm curious if anyone uses the first person cam when playing? I remember it feeling somewhat more natural to do so last year, especially in shootouts against real players. The aim assist in this game is so wonky, and I feel like first person cuts that down a good bit. I'm sure I could go into settings and change it, but I was wondering what y'all preferred for the camera.

Tapped your middle pad for different views. I think the 3rd tap is first person. I only go into first person to take a photo. In this game, I can't do 1st person. It's really slippery to me.
Don't sell yourself short. You killed.. a lot! Be sure to buy a lot of health tonics found in your catalog.
I started with the Collectors role. I soon realized that the trader role was where it's at imo. When your filling your wagon, you can collect and sell your collectables to Madam Nazar ( aka Madam Whatsherface) Those two are a winning combo. Moonshine, Naturalist and Bounty Hunting is cool too. But like I said, Trader and Collector is the winner.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I would say that it really depends on what you prefer doing. If you enjoy exploring and collecting, then collectors role will be for you. Once you have enough gold to buy the metal detector you can gather a lot of collectables. Each have a set quantity of 10-14. You can sell them individually but are worth more in a set, but a set can take a while to get due to rotations. Once you have the detector, you can use it anytime while you are roaming and you will always find something somewhere.
If you like to hunt, then trader is for you. You will be able to run wagons but you will only get the big $$$ once you buy the large wagon. The Naturalist role is still kind of hunting, but not killing. You have to sedate and take samples of animals. If you have been out hunting for your wagon, then madam whatsherface will not talk to you and you will not be able to do her missions for a little time. Bounty hunter I found to be the lower earning. I still haven't fully ranked up on it. You can have them all open at the same time although seeing as you are pretty much starting off you will need a lot of gold to do that.
I have only tried 1st person view while on my horse. Had to change it back as the bobbing made me feel "sea sick"

At first I viewed roles as "what's the best pay out?", so I would have recomended Trader or Moonshiner. It's not that the other roles don't have good rewards or pay outs. But if you want a lot of money fast....imo those are the two. Sadly, as fun as the open world is, there just isnt a lot to spend money on. You reach a point where you just have thousands of dollars but also every gun, horse, and article of clothing you can. New items do trickle in through updates but still. You earn faster than you update.
None are really better to have over another in group settings. The only real thing to point out is that you will only get role xp if you have that role. So if you are hanging out with a bunch of bounty hunters doing bounty Hunter stuff but you yourself haven't gotten that role yet, you will only receive the cash. My advise is to pick which ever one interests you most or better fits your session time allotment. You have buddies here with every role so we can help you through which ever.
Switching gears to the other question..I do on occasion flip to fp. But that's because I'm just so used to fp. It's why I never really played uncharted with you guys. If I remember it too was over the shoulder and I really don't like that view when shooting at people. I want a close up look at your blood escaping your body.

Any advice on the optimal gun to get early on? Currently rolling with the simple carbine repeater and cattleman revolver. Thinking that either a shotty or long range rifle with a scope would be the next move.
Also, I'm quite a ways off from even having enough gold to start a role. I guess it'll take some grinding, since there's no way that I'm going to pay for the quick gold. I'm hard headed like that. I totally get the lucrative option of having purchasable content that they can continue adding on to, but it feels like I've got to put a lot of investment in the Online to really get to the full experience, which is a bit frustrating.

The only way to really earn gold is to play consistently every single day. Probably the one big problem I have with the game. Like, you don't have to do a huge amount of playing. Completing just one of any daily challenge is enough to keep your streak and thus your earned gold multiplier going, and most of them are very easy to do, like "go to this place" or "take a picture of your horse" easy. But if you break that streak, say, by going out of town on vacation (like I did) you start over at the bottom of the gold payouts. It takes like 3 weeks of playing every day to get to earning worthwhile amounts of gold. It *is* really cool that you can buy those season passes with in game currency you can earn, and that the passes themselves contain almost as much gold as you spent to get them. But the requirement of constant play is a turn-off for me.
Any repeater is a good all around gun. I believe I used the Lancaster most often, but there's not a huge difference among most of them except in damage. Litchfield is probably the next step up from the base repeater. Rolling Block is a decent enough sniper if you want a scoped weapon for that. I never really got a good hand cannon, and think I just made my way with the starting one.

I would say it depends on your gunning style. The guns you start with aren't great, but they can easily get you out of trouble. I haven't jumped in too much on the pvp side of things, but there are some game modes that you can pick up weapons from the start so that could give you an idea of what you like the feel of. My advice is don't be too quick to buy things. You will rank up very fast to start so will unlock better things the higher you get. Spending all your hard earned $$$ straight off is tempting to do but I would hold off for a little bit. But having said that, personally I don't find too much difference in the rifles. I still use the repeater and it's as good as any. I use the rolling block rifle a lot too, for revolvers I use LaMat and the Navy and they are good to duel weapon with too. Also how you set your ability cards effect your weapons so have a good look at them to help you decide what you need. If at anytime you find yourself needing some cash, just hola and we can help. Theres gold in them thur hills.
Also to get gold quickly, like the blue Monks said, do as many daily challenges as you can. You will see random free roam invites pop up on your screen, some examples, fishing contest, photography or pvp events, always give them a try them. They are a good way to learn the weapons, get gold and XP. D

Call To Arms is still good for grinding gold. They payout is far less than its first week of introduction but still grindable ( not a real word, I know ) and you earn cash and xp. Yeah the dailies add up but slow going.
You'll need a Holster if you want duel action. I've got the Volcantic Pistol and Navy Revolver atm. For far length, I use my Rolling Block or Carcano. Up close, I usually use my shotty, when I dont have my Varmit or Bow in its slot.
Let me know if you want some help grinding. Or just kicking with hunting or fishing. I can still run my wagon with you to get $$$.

Awesome, thanks for the input and offers to help, everyone. I had a feeling that the rolling block might be a worthy investment when a guy from a mile away blew my head off while I was scrolling through the menus last night
I'm definitely not in the habit of playing every day, but if that's what it takes to get the gold bonus to really have a crack at the full experience, I'll give it a go, even if it's just for 20-30 minutes a day.
In general I dig open world games, but this is my first real go at one with a full online experience. I LOVED GTA V, but didn't care for the online at all. I LOVED RDR2 story mode, but the online didn't hold my interest enough to keep me playing for long after I finished the story and completed a few more trophies. I'm definitely wanting to be patient and give it a fair shake, though, especially as I think having a gaming community will make the whole experience about 5000% more fun

I +1 you and I'll tell you why. It's pretty freaking cool that dispite the already aggravating part that you acknowledge, you're still willing to go for it. You're awesome, muh dude.
Pop in, at the very least, and do a single daily. Just so that it continues to roll your streak. Rolling Block was my first baby ( rifle ) And I loved/love it.. But Carcano is more rapid. I'm not saying it's some ak-47/ sniper rifle hybrid. It's just a nice constant scoped pewer. ( <--- also not a word ) I was killed a lot with the Volcanic Pistol. Made me mad. So I got it and upgraded it. Put a longer barrel on her. Shes one of my favorites.
Griefers are the absolute worse. There is a pvp mode... so go do that. Leave the people, who are clearly of no threat, alone. These people straight-up come from GTA5 and have no chill. If someone is messing with you, just close the app. If we are with you... we kill the eff out of them.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] be sure to set your online option to defensive, that way other player can not lock on to you but you can still be killed it just makes it a little harder for them and you do not show up on the map to them unless they are pretty much next to you.
